Medicare Supplement
Between coinsurance, copays, and deductibles, costs can add up quickly, even with Original Medicare coverage. That’s where a Medicare Supplement plan comes in. Also known as Medigap, this private health insurance policy takes care of everything that isn’t covered by Medicare Parts A and B. Close the gaps in your coverage with a Medicare Supplement plan.
Prescription Drug Coverage
Medicare Part D provides coverage for prescription drugs. This is an important piece of the coverage puzzle. In fact, more than 45 million Americans with Original Medicare coverage are also enrolled in Medicare Part D. Just like Medicare Parts A and B, you must sign up for Medicare Part D during the Initial Enrollment Period to avoid penalties. This plan is highly recommended for all patients who do not already have prescription coverage through a Medicare Advantage plan, as well as for the small number of Part C patients without prescription coverage.
Part A
Part A is a primary component of Original Medicare. Part A refers to hospital insurance and includes coverage for inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, home health care, mental health care, hospice care and more. Part A covers the main costs of your hospital stay including your room, nursing typically covers up to 80% of the Medicare-approved amount, as well as benefits like rehabilitation, social services, dietary counseling, ambulance transportation, and more.
Part B
Part B is a primary component of Original Medicare. Part B refers to your general medical coverage, and includes any treatment deemed “reasonable and necessary” by your physician. With Medicare Part B, approximately 95% of all claims are paid, including doctor’s office visits, outpatient care, home health care, preventative screening, mental health treatment, durable medial equipment and more. Part B is also important for covering serious hospital expenses like surgery, diagnostic imaging, chemotherapy, and more.

What is a Medicare supplement plan?
Medicare Supplement policies are private health insurance designed to cover gaps in Original Medicare. They are also known as Medigap plans. These take care of costs such as copays, coinsurance, and deductibles which can become expensive if you need regular care from a doctor or hospital. If you need medical care while traveling outside the U.S., you can buy Medigap policies to help cover those costs. As a supplement to Original Medicare, you’re required to have Part A and Part B before you canget a Medigap policy. This way, Medicare is responsible for the Medicare-approved costs of the covered care, and the remainder is covered by your Medigap plan.
